Mauna Loa’s Macadamia Nuts Covered in Milk Chocolate = ICK!

My husband received this box of Mauna Loa’s Macadamia Nuts Covered in Milk Chocolate as a Christmas gift from a co-worker.

Shhh, don’t say anything, but I just opened the box so I could sample one.

Oh heck, he won’t care! He probably won’t even eat them anyway since he’s not a sugar freak like I am.  :)

Anyway, I have one word to summarize their taste: ICK!

To be honest, I’ve had these before and have never been impressed with their flavor. They taste cheap and the Milk Chocolate is way too sweet.  I guess that’s Milk Chocolate for you – sweet, sweet, sweet.

That’s right, I said it, the Chocolate is WAY TOO SWEET!

Don’t get me wrong, I love knock-your-socks-off sweet things (i.e., sweet tarts, for one), but this Chocolate doesn’t cut the mustard with me.  Cheap, cheap, cheap!

I was surprised to learn after a quick search on the Internet that the Mauna Loa brand is a Hershey’s product.

Hershey’s?  Wow, I love Hershey’s Chocolates. I mean Hershey’s is one of the PREMIER Chocolate companies, after all.

But in my opinion Hershey’s lost their touch on this particular product.

Maybe I don’t care for the Milk Chocolate flavor since I’ve recently become a Dark Chocolate lover. Even then, I can’t eat dark Chocolate that is more than 70% cacao. So who knows if that’s the reason I don’t care for these Chocolates.

I’m not a huge fan of Macadamia Nuts either, but it’s not those that are turning me off here.  Again, it’s the Chocolate they’re using.

What are your thoughts?  Am I the only one who finds Mauna Loa’s Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts less than desirable and cheap tasting? Maybe it’s just me since Hershey’s still makes them and has been selling them for years, if not decades.
